& the bell would still Chime
The kettle would boil
& the spoons would still stir

your guitars would be played
& your TV would be loud
your clothes on a chair in a
Crumped unfolded mound.

Your toothbrush would be damp
& your sink stained with water marks
you would have walked plenty more
times in your favorite park...

But none of this happened
It all stayed where it was left
your cat didn't understand
What was going on,
Or why you wept?


You could have reached out,
I Would have dropped
everything to come.
Life isn't that simple,
